"You don't need a reason to laugh. You just need to show up."

Laughter Yoga is a transformative practice focused on choosing joy as a form of exercise. By combining intentional laughter with deep yogic breathing, we flood the brain with oxygen and endorphins, melting away the stress of isolation and fatigue.

  • Emotional Clarity: Deep release of tension and immediate mood shifts.
  • Physical Vitality: Boosted immune health and improved circulation.
  • Social Connection: A safe, human space to connect through play.

As a certified practitioner from Laughter Yoga International, I invite you to join us and discover your resilience. Ready to feel lighter?

Understanding the practice
in five essential ideas.

WHAT IS LAUGHTER YOGA?

Founded by Dr. Madan Kataria · Certified by Laughter Yoga International · Practised in over 100 countries

01

Laughter Yoga is not comedy — it is an exercise programme.

It is a unique concept where anyone can learn to laugh without relying on humour, jokes, or comedy. No sense of humour is required. No preparation needed. Just a willingness to show up.

02

We initiate laughter as an exercise in a group setting.

Through eye contact and childlike playfulness, it quickly transforms into genuine and contagious laughter. What starts as intentional becomes real — every single time.

03

We call it Laughter Yoga because it combines laughter exercises with deep yogic breathing.

This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain, making you feel more energetic, more focused, and genuinely healthier — all within a single session.

04

Scientific studies show that the body cannot differentiate between real laughter and voluntary laughter.

You get the same health benefits whether the laughter is spontaneous or intentional. The joy is real either way.

05

Laughter Yoga was founded by Dr. Madan Kataria — a medical doctor from India — in a Mumbai park in 1995 with just five people.

Today, there are thousands of free laughter clubs in over 100 countries, practised in senior centres, schools, hospitals, corporations, yoga studios, universities, and many more.

"Come and try it once.
You will understand everything in the first five minutes."

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF LAUGHTER YOGA

What happens to your body
when you laugh.

From the very first session, the transformation begins.

❤️‍🔥

Heart Health

Laughter dilates blood vessels, improves circulation, lowers blood pressure, and reduces cholesterol. A natural daily cardio session your heart will thank you for.

😷

Immunity Boost

Regular practice strengthens the immune system, reducing frequency of colds, infections, and respiratory illness. Changes appear within 2–3 months of consistent practice.

🧠

Mental Clarity & Mood

Laughter increases dopamine and serotonin in the brain, reducing anxiety, lifting depression, and creating a lasting positive mental state. Many practitioners reduce medication over time.

💨

Deep Oxygenation

Yogic breathing flushes residual air from the lungs, flooding the body and brain with fresh oxygen. The result is higher energy, sharper focus, and a feeling of genuine vitality.

🌪️

Stress Relief

Just 20 minutes of laughter significantly lowers cortisol — the primary stress hormone. The nervous system shifts from fight-or-flight into rest-and-restore. The relief is immediate.

🧘‍♀️

Pain Reduction

Laughter releases endorphins — natural pain relievers more potent than morphine. Practitioners consistently report reduced intensity of chronic pain from arthritis, spondylitis, and muscle tension.

🫂

Human Connection

Group laughter triggers oxytocin — the bonding hormone. Within minutes, strangers feel connected. Loneliness dissolves. A real, warm community forms. This is not a side effect. It is the point.

🏃‍♀️

Cardio Without the Gym

10 minutes of hearty laughter is equal to 30 minutes on a rowing machine. Ideal for busy people, those with limited mobility, and anyone who needs a workout that feels like pure joy.

☘️

Chronic Disease Support

Laughter helps manage diabetes, arthritis, asthma, hypertension, and other chronic conditions by reducing stress hormones and inflammation. It is not a cure — it is a powerful daily ally.

The Science of Happiness

Biological Resilience

Clinical research confirms that laughing for 20 minutes significantly dampens the production of cortisol—the body's primary stress hormone. This neurological 'off-switch' is paired with a natural flood of endorphins, the chemicals that promote a sense of well-being and elevate your threshold for both physical and emotional pain.

Dissolving Isolation

Group laughter stimulates the release of oxytocin, often called the 'bonding hormone.' This biological response dissolves feelings of loneliness and disconnection by creating a shared state of trust. Fostering these deep human connections creates a safety net that grounds you through stressful transitions.

Warning!

Laughter Yoga is a safe and beneficial practice for most people. However, as it involves physical exertion and changes in internal pressure, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain health conditions. Please check the lists below.

  • Severe backache

“Your well-being is my priority. If you have any concerns about whether this practice is right for you, I always recommend speaking with your healthcare provider first. We are here to support your journey safely.”

Our Sober Space Commitment

We are dedicated to creating a safe and grounded environment for everyone to explore joy. To maintain the clarity and safety of our community workspace, all sessions are strictly sober. We ask that participants honor this commitment by arriving free from the influence of alcohol or other substances. This ensures the physical and emotional safety of the entire group.

Minor Discomforts After Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga is very safe. Occasionally you may notice one of these two mild reactions — both are normal and temporary.

💧 Mild headache or heaviness in the head Common and harmless. Ease off the effort, laugh more gently, and it passes. If you have high blood pressure or migraines, please let Sophie know before joining.

🌥️ Throat irritation or dry cough Also normal. Drink more water and avoid forcing your laughter. Laughing from the diaphragm rather than the throat prevents this entirely — Sophie guides you through this in every session.

Every session is an invitation.
