The Power of Laughter in
Senior Living

Laughter. Joy. Movement. Human connection.

I’m Sophie Clément, founder of Dance & Laugh Wellness. I speak with Activity, Life Enrichment, Wellness, and senior-living professionals about what happens when we laugh — and why moments of joy and connection matter as we age.

Expect stories. Accessible science. A little participation. And yes… probably some laughter.

Session Formats

15–20 Minutes — The Spark

A lively, mostly spoken presentation exploring what happens when we laugh and why laughter can matter in senior living, with one or two simple demonstrations.

45-Minute Interactive Presentation — Feel It

A deeper experience combining accessible science and discussion with laughter, breathing, music, gentle movement, and playful interaction so participants can feel the ideas for themselves.

Why Laughter Belongs in the Room

Laughter is more than entertainment. It changes the way we breathe, gets the diaphragm and upper body involved, can soften tension, shifts our attention, and gives people something to share.

I talk about the science — without taking all the fun out of it.

Then use your existing alternating picture/text blocks for three ideas:

Breathe & Move

Laughter creates repeated active exhalations and naturally engages the diaphragm, face, voice, shoulders, and upper body.

Feel the Shift

A few playful minutes can interrupt the seriousness of the day and noticeably change the energy in a room.

Seniors Enjoying Laughter

Connect

Shared laughter gives people an immediate experience in common. Sometimes strangers feel a little less like strangers after only a few minutes.

That is scientifically much safer than the current promises about “restoring energy” or long-term vitality.

Serious Topic. Joyful Delivery.

Laughter, aging, breathing, engagement, and connection are meaningful subjects.

That doesn’t mean we have to discuss them with a straight face.

My goal is simple: give people something useful to think about — and make sure they leave the room a little lighter than they entered it.
